CRISS CROSS JELLY COOKIES
These have to be the world's best cookies!

Ingredients

1 C. butter
2 C. chopped walnuts
1 C. sugar
2 1/4 C. flour
2 egg yolks
zest of 1 lemon
1 1/4 C. apricot preserves
1 egg white


Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Cream the butter, sugar and egg yolks together
Add the zest, flour and nuts
Press 2/3 of the mixture on a cookie sheet
Spread the preserves on top
Make strips of the remaining mixture and place over the top in a criss
cross pattern  
Rub strips with egg white, sprinkle with a little sugar

Bake 30 - 35 min.
Cool, cut in squares, but do not remove from pan
Chill, then Remove  
Best when chilled 24 hours
