Where I stand
First and foremost, I'm most concerned that the village presently can't seem to operate
within their budget, and a village of less than 6,000 needs the number of village
employees that we now have. I'm concerned that our ever-raising tax dollars are spent
with no real disclosure to the public, or any public input, as to how they are spent. I
believe that the public offices need to be transparent and accountable.
Secondly, I'd like for our village to become more family-friendly, and concentrate on
quality of life issues like litter clean-up, park and beautification development, modern
mosquito control, and safer streets. Encouraging our police to strictly enforce speed
limits, and to plan sidewalks, or a striped lane, for bikes and pedestrians, would help. Our
placement near the area bike trails gives our village a unique opportunity to expand on
the many recreational opportunities they offer, not only for our residents, but for visiting
cyclists, as well.
Thirdly, there needs to be a plan to preserve some of our natural/open spaces and be
more environmentally and aesthetically friendly in our future development. I would like for
development to be more family oriented, and for our new industrial businesses to re-use
brown fields, when possible, and be removed from our public/family areas in future
planning for the village.
Qualifications
I've lived in Pontoon Beach for 30 plus years, and understand the many varied issues that
arise. As a resident and small business owner here, I have the time and availability to
devote to the village and it's residents. No, I am not a "politician". But I'm an honest,
educated, progressive business owner that has operated within a tight budget, solved
many problems, and worked extensively with the public for the last 20 years. I would be a
strong voice for all of the residents, and promote public awareness of all village business.
Why vote for the Citizens for Positive Change?
Our opponents, by their past and present associations, prefer to keep our residents in the
dark concerning village business, don't mind raising our taxes, don't mind putting more
warehouses and heavy industry in our backyards, don't mind looking at all the litter
everywhere, don't care what happens to our pristine, natural areas, haven't bothered to
enforce codes and ordinances in a timely manner, don't see the speeding cars through
our neighborhoods, have no intention of ever providing the residents with a park -- I could
go on -- but instead of complaining about it, I would like the opportunity to try and change
it for the better. The residents of Pontoon Beach deserve it.
