The Melting Pot Market is an open-air, European style market with an urban flair. The Melting Pot
Market venue features local art and crafts, an assortment of collector's items, locally grown fresh
produce, baked items, jams and jellies and other food products.
Vendor's applications will be submitted to a judging panel for approval before a permit will be
granted.
Market Operations:
The Melting Pot Market is held the second Saturday from July to October and operates rain or shine.
Hours of operation are 8:00 am - 12:00 noon.
Allocation of and changes to vendor space will be at the Market Master's discretion.
Vendors with reserved space should contact the Market Master prior to market day if they will not be
able to attend. If vendor is not on site by 7:45 am, the vendor will forfeit their site to another vendor and
will not be given a refund for the space.
Vendors shall apply their own tables and any other supplies needed for their display. All displays and
signage must be kept within your rented space.
Vendors can begin set up at 7:00 am
Vendors must not start breaking down until 12:00 noon
Vendors must be courteous to other vendors and to the public at all times.
Vendors and their agents, employees and representatives must maintain a neat and clean personal
appearance at all times.
No crying out or "hawking" of products will be allowed.
Vendors are responsible for clean up of their own debris after market closing. Trash, debris and
leftover produce removal by management result in a minimum cleaning charge of $25.00 to the vendor.
Any such cleaning charge must be paid prior to the next market date or Vendor will not be allowed to
set up and space and prepaid fees will be forfeited.
Vendors are responsible for following the laws of the State of Illinois and Madison County, for taxes,
health and liability insurance, etc. Also, regulations pertaining to labeling, packaging and storage of
eggs, meat, jams, jellies, honey, baked goods, etc. must be followed.
The Market Master can randomly inspect products for sale. Bills of sale or proof of local purchase may
be requested at any time.
The Market will proceed "rain or shine".
The sale of food and beverages, which are generally intended for immediate consumption, is reserved
for local non-profit groups (and select licensed restaurateurs with a food permit and liability insurance
policy).
Acceptable Agricultural Products:
Fresh fruit and vegetables, nuts, herbs, cut or dried flowers, bedding or other nursery plants, cider,
molasses, honey, non-refrigerated baked goods, jams, jellies and preserves that are boiling water or
pressure canned, dried product, grains, straw/hay, cornstalks or similar wild gathered products are
acceptable agricultural and food products.
The sale of eggs must meet the packaging and labeling requirements of the current Illinois Egg and
Egg Products Act.
Unacceptable Farm Products:
Produce that is not locally grown is not acceptable. Home canned foods that are not boiling water or
pressure canned or any baked or cooked foods requiring temperature control are unacceptable for
sale at the market.
The sale of live animals are not permitted.
Fine Arts & Crafts:
The Melting Pot Market Committee will jury all potential vendors based on originality, uniqueness of
each piece, and skilled execution or technique and materials.
Jury session will be held during Melting Pot Market Committee meets or special meetings. Work will
not bu juried on Saturday mornings at the market. No fine art or craft products may be sold until it has
been approved at a jury session. The Melting Pot Market Committee retains the right to re-jury any
vendor at the Committee's discretion.
All fine arts products must be handmade/crafted by the vendor. The artisan or a knowledgeable group
representative should be present on the market day if possible.
Artisans may be commercial or non-commercial.
Kits or assembly line craft products, which are of questionable artistic merit, are discouraged.
Community Table Guidelines:
Must be a non-profit organization or a non-profit activity of a for-profit group (e.g. providing educational
information free to the public).
Participation is only allowed once per season.
Display table and facilities must be provided by the participating organization.
"General Rules for Market Operations" apply to Community Tables for set up and conduct during
Market hours.
Vendors are expected to fairly price their goods.
The Melting Pot Market Committee reserves the right to refuse participation in the market to anyone
person or group at the sole discretion of the Committee.
Space Allocation and Costs:
Space can be rented on all four sessions or one time only.
Seasonal space is reserved for the duration of the season and requires prepayment.
All spaces must be prepaid subjected to availability.
Agricultural Products:
Fruit and vegetables should be in season and grown within a one hundred mile radius of Granite City.
Vendors outside of this radius will be considered on a case by case basis.
Vendors should grow a minimum of one half of the products they sell.
Purchased produce shall originate directly from local growers.
No reselling of commercially processed or packaged food products is allowed.
Only food products that are wholesome and free of adulteration may be marketed.
All vendors are responsible for following all county healthy department sanitation guidelines for food
preparation, storage and sales.
Vendors must follow all laws of the State of Illinois for the sale of products such as eggs and meat.
