Granite City and it's surrounding communities said good bye to Sgt. Steven Paul Mennemeyer this morning, August 18, 2006. Local citizens gathered along Pontoon Road and Highway 111 to view the funeral procession as it proceeded to Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis for internment with full military honors. Sgt. Mennemeyer, 26, of Granite City was killed in the western province of Anbar in Iraq on August 8, 2006. He is survived by his mother, Ramona L. Phillips of Granite City, his father and step-mother, Steve and Maria Mennemeyer of New Albany, Indiana. He leaves behind one son, Andrew Mennemeyer of Granite City, a sister, Sarah Mennemeyer of Granite City and a step-brother, Drake Wallingsford of New Albany, Indiana. Our deepest sympathies to the Mennemeyer Family. Thank you for your sacrifice our Granite City son. |
