| This is My Country by Sara Zubi “What country are you from?” America. “No, like where are you from originally?” The United States of America. “No! Where are your parents from?” Oh, my mother is from Uzbekistan and my father is from Palestine. I realize Uzbek-Palestinian Americans are rare, but so often people disregard or simply forget that I am American! And, I’m so very proud of being a citizen of these 50 United States, for this is my country. America is just one big melting pot- an attribute that drew my parents to this country. Nowhere else in the world is full of so many cultures, ethnicities, beliefs, and unique qualities (I would know. I’ve been to four other countries). Every time I leave the US, I’ m beckoned back because this is my home. This is my country. Despite what the rest of the world may believe, America is and will continue to be the powerhouse of the world.
