| Happy March everyone - Did you know that before 1752 March was the first month of the calendar year? We changed to the "New Style" or "Gregorian calendar" in that year and only then did the year begin on the 1st of January! Spring is knocking at our door, the days are growing longer slowly but surely and sprigs of Easter grass are popping up in yards everywhere. What better time to build a colorful kite and head to the nearest field to see how high you can fly it? We knew March winds would almost always guarantee a successful time with one of the many kites we would build during early Spring. These days it seems like a lost art. So, here's to flying kites, waiting for the Spring blooms and another change of the season in our hometown. | Did you know every year TOWNSHIP OFFICIALS OF ILLINOIS gives out scholarships? A central component of the application is an essay. Applicants must complete a 500- word (minimum) essay conveying their understanding of township government among the local government landscape in Illinois. Specifically, “The Role of Township Government in Today’ s Society and in the Future” and a summary of an interview with a township official. Applications are due by April 1, 2020. |
